01

Who we are

Mizan is a private, application-only support network. Membership is granted at our discretion based on the application you submit. We are not a public forum, a content platform, a dating service, or a sectarian community.

02

Eligibility — minimum age 16

You must be at least 16 years old to apply, sign up, or hold an account on Mizan. We've set the minimum age at 16 because the network involves serious one-to-one conversations about faith, isolation, family conflict, and other adult topics that we do not believe are appropriate for younger users. 16 also matches the highest data-protection consent age used across the EU/UK under the GDPR, so the same minimum applies wherever you live.

If you are between 16 and the age of majority in your country (typically 18), you confirm that a parent or legal guardian is aware of, and consents to, your use of Mizan. Where local law requires a higher minimum age for online services, that higher age applies to you.

If we discover, or have reason to believe, that an account holder is under 16, we will permanently remove the account and delete associated personal data.

By creating an account you confirm, on a continuing basis, that you meet the minimum age and that the information you provide on application and verification is truthful. Misrepresentation — including misrepresenting your age — is grounds for immediate, permanent removal.

03

Your account

You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for everything that happens under your account.

Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access. We may suspend any account at any time, with or without notice, where we believe the network or its members are at risk.

04

Acceptable use

By using Mizan you agree to follow the Code of Conduct. Violations may result in warning, read-only suspension, full suspension, or permanent removal at our sole discretion.

You may not use the network for fundraising, donation requests, business solicitation, harassment, sectarian attacks, or any unlawful purpose.

05

Member-to-member interaction

Mizan only facilitates introductions and messaging inside the platform. We do not vouch for any individual member, verify their character, or endorse meeting in person.

Meeting another member in real life — or sharing personal information, money, or accommodation — is entirely at your own discretion and risk.

06

Content you submit

You retain ownership of the content you submit (messages, profile details, applications). You grant us a limited licence to store, display, and process that content solely to operate the network.

We may remove any content that breaches the Code of Conduct or these Terms without prior notice.

07

Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend your access at any time, for any reason, where we judge it necessary to protect the network or its members.

Upon termination, sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive (acceptable use violations, liability, governing law) will continue to apply.

08

No religious or professional advice

Mizan is a peer support network. Nothing on the platform — including messages from other members, profile content, or moderation decisions — constitutes religious authority, scholarly verdict (fatwa), legal advice, medical advice, financial advice, or counselling. You are solely responsible for any decision you make based on interactions through the network. Always seek qualified professional advice where appropriate.

09

Disclaimer of warranties

The network is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.

We do not warrant the character, sincerity, beliefs, or background of any member. Verification reduces but does not eliminate risk.

10

No liability

Mizan is provided free of charge as a private community service. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Mizan, its operators, volunteers, contributors, and service providers shall have no liability of any kind to you or to any third party arising out of or in connection with your use of the network. This includes (without limitation) liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive loss; loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, opportunity, or reputation; emotional distress; physical injury; or property damage — whether arising from another member's conduct, content posted on the network, downtime, security incidents, moderation decisions, or any in-person meeting between members.

You use the network entirely at your own risk and on your own responsibility.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded or limited (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by gross negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under the mandatory law of your country of residence). Where a particular exclusion is held unenforceable, the remainder of this section continues to apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

11

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Mizan and its operators from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the network, (b) your breach of these Terms or the Code of Conduct, (c) your interaction with another member, or (d) any content you submit.

12

Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales for the resolution of any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the network, except where mandatory local consumer law in your country of residence requires otherwise.

13

Severability and waiver

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.

14

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the network or by email. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
